Island of the Gods
Landscape Photography from Samothraki, the mystical and mythical Island in the Aegean Sea. This Greek island was once well known for its sacred intitiation rites. Many famous people from the past, Herodotus, Plato, Julius Ceasar and many others, visited the Island of the Gods.
Samothraki is the Island where the Winged Victory ‘Nike’ was taken from. She now lives in the Louvre museum in Paris. The island, also known as ‘Sanctuary of the Great Gods’, is mentioned in Homer’s “Iliad”. Neptune overlooked the Troy war from the top of the highest mountain on the island, Fengary, to be translated by Moon Mountain.Kim Dijkstra went to Samothraki, and created her own myth, both visual as by writing a story. You are also welcome to read ‘Fengari Souvernir’.
